How To Make Bunting

How to make Bunting

It can be used for any special occasion or strung up in your house to give a lovely 'shabby chic' look.
Its super easy to make and can be made with any fabric you like and is a great way to recycle old scraps of fabric you might have.

All you need is,
  • Fabric for the triangles (how long you want to make your string of bunting will depend on how much fabric you need.)
  • A long line of fabric to join the whole thing together, this will be the length you want your bunting to be. You can buy thick fabric ribbon from craft store its easier to cut.
  • Paper for a template
  • Pins
  • A sewing machine or if you want to hand sew (although that may take a long time) you'll need sewing needles.
  • Thread
  • Fabric scissors

1. First thing I did was draw out the triangle on a piece of paper and cut it out to make a stencil. Mine were 20cm x 20cm x 15cm. But you can make yours any size you would like.
2. I then decided how long I wanted my bunting to be and cut a line of fabric. Remembering to leave 40cm either side to be able to hang the bunting.

3. Pin the triangle template to the fabric and cut. You need two for each bunting flag. Repeat until you have the amount you want.

4. Pin the two triangles together with the inside facing out. Sew along the dotted lines above. Once they are sewn you can turn the flags inside out so that now the front of the fabric is on the outside and the seam is hidden.

5. Evenly space the flags along the fabric remembering leave 40cm each end to tie when it's finished. Place the top of the flags half way up the strip of fabric and fold the fabric over. Pin into place.

6. Sew on the flags using a straight stitch.

It's now ready to hang proudly.
Happy Crafting.
